Gillie Hoyte Byrom creates hand-painted portrait miniatures in vitreous enamel using traditional techniques for a local and international clientele.

The advantage of an enamel over other methods of painting lies in the unfading nature of the colours. Layer upon layer of painting with fine sable brushes develops a depth of hue in a sequence of kiln firings. This results in a lovely bloom to the skin, bringing life to the likeness whilst presenting the subject's best features in a harmonious artistic composition. The enamel portrait is a jewel-like heirloom and can be set in a variety of ways as a silver box, as jewellery or as a miniature.

The price for an enamel miniature starts at £750 and includes the following considerations:

• size of the miniature
• pose of the subject e.g. head study or full seated figure
• detail in the costume
• base metal used e.g. copper or 18ct. gold
