Still Point
Still Point
Christian and spiritual themes often form part of Claudia’s work as she seeks to create pieces that are not only visually appealing but also have a deeper resonance. ‘Still Point’ is one such piece which is inspired by the poem ‘Burnt Norton’ by TS Eliot: ‘At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless; neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is, but neither arrest nor movement.’ Eliot suggested that God was found at the still point. This figure conveys both stillness and movement. As a separate interpretation it also suggests the modern woman trying to find her still point with God as her world of family, work and life whirl around her.
