Search for Art or Artists

Search for Art or Craft Work

To perform a search for art or craft work on this website, first click on the button titled ‘Search for Art’ that appears in the main search menu in the left hand column below the National Art & Craft Directory Logo. This option will now expand to reveal, below, a list of all criteria on which you may refine your search. By default all the options are set to ‘ANY’ so that if you click ‘Search’ it will show all artwork on the site. If you select an option from any of the drop down menus for the available criteria then the search results will be filtered to show only artwork that conforms to all the options you specified. The following criteria are used:

  • Discipline
    The main artistic discipline/s to which the piece of art or craft work belongs. Artwork can belong to more than one Discipline.
  • Medium
    The material/s or technique/s with which the art or craft work was created. Note; when a selection has been made from the Discipline menu, the options in the Medium menu will update to display only Medium’s that appear under the selected Discipline. Artwork can belong to more than one Medium.
  • Theme/Subject
    Any visual reference, dominant idea, or motif found within the piece of art or craft work. Artwork can belong to more than one Theme or Subject.
  • Object
    Tangible art or craft work with a specific use or purpose. Artwork can belong to more than one Object.
  • Country
    By default, the country of residence for the Artist who created the piece of art or craft work. If the piece is specified as residing in a gallery by the Artist then the location of the gallery will be used instead. Only countries that contain art or craft work will be displayed in the Country menu.
  • County / Region / State
    The County / Region / State in which the artwork resides. Note; a selection from Country must have been made for County to be active. The options in County will then update to display only counties that appear under the selected country and that contain art or craft work.
  • Town
    The Town in which the artwork resides. Note; selections from both Country and County must have been specified for Town to be active. The options in Town will then update to display only towns that appear under the selected county and country, and that contain art or craft work.
  • Listed in Last
    You can choose to refine the results to show only art or craft work that has been added to the National Art & Craft Directory Website within the last 24 hours, 7 days, or 28 days. By default this is set to ANY, which will show all results.

To perform a search simply make selections on any criteria you wish to specify, then click on the ‘Search’ button below. The results of your search will then be displayed in the main central display area to the right. Simply click on any item to view full details and larger imagery.

When viewing the search results page you will also be presented with some additional options above the resulting artwork to allow you to refine the search results. For more advanced search control click on the ‘Refine Your Search’ button. To find out more about advanced search please view Advanced Search.

You can also sort the search results by clicking on one of the headings:

  • Name
    Name of the piece of art or craft work, ordered alphabetically.
  • Medium
    The material or technique with which the art or craft work was created, ordered alphabetically.
  • Artist
    The name of the Artist, ordered alphabetically.
  • Location
    The location of the art or craft work, ordered alphabetically.
  • Date Added
    The date the artwork was added to the Website. Ordered chronologically.

If your search produces a large number of results then they will be spread across several pages, in which case there will be a page number menu and ‘next’ and ‘back’ buttons above the search results to enable you to navigate between the pages. You can also select how many items you want to be displayed per page.

You also have a button on this menu that enables you to easily bookmark this page with various bookmarking and social networking sites.

Search for Artists

To perform a search for Artists on this website, first click on the button titled ‘Search for Artist’ that appears in the main search menu in the left hand column below the National Art & Craft Directory Logo. This option will now expand to reveal, below, a list of all criteria on which you may refine your search. By default all the options are set to ‘ANY’ so that if you click ‘Search’ it will show all Artists on the site. If you select an option from any of the drop down menus for the available criteria then the search results will be filtered to show only Artists that conform to all the options you specified. The following criteria are used:

  • Artist’s Name
    The name of the artist. Type in all or part of their name to search in the box provided.
  • Discipline
    The main artistic discipline/s to which the Artist’s art or craft work belongs.
  • Country
    The country of residence for the Artist. Only countries that contain artists will be displayed in the Country menu.
  • County / Region / State
    The County / Region / State in which the Artist resides. Note; a selection from Country must have been made for County to be active. The options in County will then update to display only counties that appear under the selected country and that contain artists.
  • Town
    The Town in which the Artist resides. Note; selections from both Country and County must have been specified for Town to be active. The options in Town will then update to display only towns that appear under the selected county and country, and that contain artists.
  • View A-Z
    Clicking on this option displays a list of all artists in alphabetical order in the main central display area to the right.

To perform a search simply make selections on any criteria you wish to specify, then click on the ‘Search’ button below. The results of your search will then be displayed in the main central display area to the right. Simply click on ‘more’ to view full details for that Artist. Clicking on any of the thumbnail images of the Artist’s art or craft work in the search results will take you to the page with the full details for that piece of art or craft work, not for the Artist.

When viewing the search results page you will also be presented with some additional options above the resulting artwork to allow you to refine the search results. For more advanced search control click on the ‘Refine Your Search’ button.

The ‘Refine Your Search’ selection differs from the quick search menu to the left in that it enables you to select more than 1 item from each category by providing a series of check boxes. It also enables you to search on a number of criteria not available through the standard search. You can also sort the search results by clicking on one of the headings:

  • Name
    Name of the Artist, ordered alphabetically.
  • Medium
    The material or technique with which the Artist’s art or craft work was created, ordered alphabetically.
  • Location
    The location of the Artist’s residence, ordered alphabetically.
  • Date Joined
    The date the Artist registered with the National Art & Craft Directory. Ordered chronologically.

If your search produces a large number of results then they will be spread across several pages, in which case there will be a page number menu and ‘next’ and ‘back’ buttons above the search results to enable you to navigate between the pages. You can also select how many items you want to be displayed per page.

You also have a button on this menu that enables you to easily bookmark this page with various bookmarking and social networking sites.

Search by Discipline

For a quick way of searching the art and craft work on this website by the main artistic discipline/s to which they belong, you can click on any of the options in the ‘Discipline’ menu, found in the main search menu in the left hand column below the National Art & Craft Directory Logo.

Advanced Search

To perform a more advanced search click on the ‘Advanced Search’ button found in the main search menu in the left hand column below the National Art & Craft Directory Logo. The main central display area to the right will now show a list of all the criteria on which you can search for art and craft work. choose one or more options from the drop down menus, and then click the [Search] button to perform a search. Your search will then refine the results to match all the selections you make. So for example, if you choose 'Oil' and 'Watercolour' from the Discipline Menu, and also 'Landscape' from the Theme/Subject Menu, then your search results will display any Oil or Watercolour paintings that feature landscapes.

The Advanced Search function differs from the quick search menu to the left in that it enables you to select more than 1 item from each category by providing a series of check boxes. It also enables you to search on a number of criteria not available through the standard Search for Art or Craft Work:

  • Search by Artist
    Refine your search by specific Artist/s.
  • Search by Price
    Specify a minimum and maximum price bracket for the search. Note; there is also an option here to include items which have not had a price specified; this option is ticked to include them in your search by default.
  • Search by Dimensions
    Specify the minimum and maximum width, height, and depth of the item you’re searching for.
  • Search by Weight
    Specify the minimum and maximum weight of the item you’re searching for.

Shortlist Art & Craft Work

If you have registered with the National Art & Craft Directory and have seen art and craft works that you like, you can add them to a personal shortlist so that you can save them to view whenever you are in your Account Area. Wherever an item is available to shortlist you will see a small page icon, as shown below. Simply click on this to add to your shortlist.

Search for Resources

To perform a search for goods materials, services, or resources first navigate to the Resources section of the website; to find this click on ‘Resources’ in the main menu at the top of the page. This page will display a list of all criteria on which you may refine your search. By default all the options are set to ‘ANY’ so that if you click ‘Search’ it will show all resources on the site.

If you select an option from any of the drop down menus for the available criteria then the search results will be filtered to show only resources that conform to all the options you specified. The following criteria are used:

  • Search by Category
    All resources are grouped into categories that best describe the service they provide. You may select as many items from this list as you like on which to search.
  • Search by Location
    The location of the resource. Selecting a Country will automatically filter the options in the County drop down menu to display only counties that appear under the selected country and that contain resources. The options in Town will then update to display only towns that appear under the selected county and country, and that contain resources.
  • Listed in Last
    You can choose to refine the results to show only resources that have been added to the National Art & Craft Directory Website within the last 24 hours, 7 days, or 28 days. By default this is set to ANY, which will show all results.

When viewing the Resources search results page you will also be presented with some additional options above the resulting resource listings to allow you to refine the search results. To open these options click on the ‘Refine Your Search’ button.

  • Category
    The Category/ies that best describe the service they provide, ordered alphabetically.
  • Location
    The location of the resource, ordered alphabetically.
  • Date Added
    The date the resource was registered with the National Art & Craft Directory. Ordered chronologically.

If your search produces a large number of results then they will be spread across several pages, in which case there will be a page number menu and ‘next’ and ‘back’ buttons above the search results to enable you to navigate between the pages. You can also select how many items you want to be displayed per page.

Search for Events & Competitions

To perform a search for events or competitions first navigate to the Events & Competitions section of the website; to find this click on ‘Events & Competitions’ in the main menu at the top of the page. This page will display two options, ‘Search for Event’ and ‘Search for Competition’. By default the ‘Search for Event’ option is expanded, if you want to search for a competition then click on the ‘Search for Competition’ option below.

Each of these two options, when clicked on, will display a list of all criteria on which you may refine your search. By default all the options are set to ‘ANY’ or ‘ALL’ so that if you click ‘Search’ it will show all events and competitions on the site. If you select an option from any of the drop down menus for the available criteria then the search results will be filtered to show only items that conform to all the options you specified. The following criteria are used:

  • Search by Date
    Enables you to search for an event or competition that is happening on a specific date. If you wish to enter dates for ‘Starts on’ and ‘Ends on’, then please click on the calendar icons and select a date from the interactive calendar.
  • Search by Category
    All events & competitions are grouped into categories. You may select as many items from this list as you like on which to search.
  • Search by Location
    The location of the event or competition. Selecting a Country will automatically filter the options in the County drop down menu to display only counties that appear under the selected country and that contain events or competitions. The options in Town will then update to display only towns that appear under the selected county and country, and that contain events or competitions.
  • Listed in Last

Shortlist Events or Competitions

If you have registered with the National Art & Craft Directory and have seen events or competitions that interest you, you can add them to a personal shortlist so that you can save them to view whenever you are in your Account Area. Wherever an item is available to shortlist you will see a small page icon, as shown below. Simply click on this to add to your shortlist.

Keyword Search

You can search for any keywords within the descriptions and titles of Art and Craft Work, Artists, Events & Competitions, and Resources by using the keyword search to the top right of the website. Simply type in the word on which you want to search and then click the ‘Go’ button. This will display any items that match your search, ordered into each main category, such as Artwork, Events & Competitions. To view the results contained within each category simply click on the category heading.

When choosing a phrase on which to search please be aware that the search function will use the exact phrase provided, so if your search is unsuccessful you may want to try plurals, removing hyphenation, etc.
