Benches Studio - Jewellery Courses and Workshops
Craft

Benches Studio - the aim of the studio is to encourage and inspire creativity in a relaxed and fun environment. Whether you come with no experience or are wanting to develop your existing skills the courses are built around you. Each course member can work on their own unique project which means you get to see different approaches and styles and are able to learn from each other. As there is a maximum of  4 people on the courses you can  be assured of individual support.

Both our 1 and 2 day courses are designed to be suitable for either complete beginners or those with some experience as you will improve your knowledge through the development of practical skills. There is a maximum capacity in the studio for 4 students so you are assured of excellent attention throughout as you are encouraged to link the ideas you bring along with the skills and techniques you learn during the day. You will not be told what to make - how your pieces develop is up to you !

To start either course you will discuss , over a cup of coffee , your hopes for the day, any ideas you have and your experience ( or lack of it ! ) to date. You will be introduced to the tools available in the studio, your own work station and aspects of health and safety. And then it’s time to begin !

You will be guided through the designing and making process at your own pace and  will complete a ring, pendent or earrings using traditional jewellery making techniques from sawing and filing to soldering, texturing and polishing. On the 2 day course you will have the chance to experiment with the more advanced processes of stone setting, casting and fold forming. You will be able to take your learning as far as you wish - the only thing to stop your creativity will be time !

The evening group.

The Tuesday evening sessions offer a more flexible approach to the development of your jewellery making. It is suitable for those who have no experience and for those with some skills as, like the one or two day courses, your ability will develop at the pace which is right for you. You will enjoy full access to the range of tools etc. which the studio can provide and will be encouraged to develop your own style through the sketching and modelling of your individual ideas.

You may want to work on some ideas at home and come every other week, you may like to come to share ideas and discuss techniques with others or you may just want to use the studio facilities with a ' heads down ' approach - the flexibility is there for you to decide. And, as always, David will be there to support and guide you through the range of techniques you need to develop in order to create that stunning piece of jewellery !
